AlertSite issues alerts when your Web pages are in error, have timed out, or are unavailable.

Now we also offer performance threshold notifications. In contrast to standard alerts, these less urgent notifications alert you when page performance levels fall below a certain threshold, set by you.

Performance threshold notifications give you a "heads-up" before any element about your Web site experiences unacceptable performance levels.

Dynamic and Static Performance Thresholds

From each monitoring location, AlertSite measures the current average response time of your Web pages against your designated performance threshold. AlertSite issues performance threshold notifications when current average response time exceeds the performance threshold.

Performance thresholds may be static or dynamic.

Static – Static performance thresholds are a fixed value, with the performance threshold notifications being reported as a numeric value. For example:

  • You set your notification threshold of two seconds for your Web page response time.
  • If your Web page response time is three seconds, you will be notified that your threshold was exceeded by one second.

Dynamic – Dynamic performance thresholds are a percentage value. AlertSite compares a Web page's current average response time to its historical average response time, and notifies you when the current average exceeds the historical average by a designated percentage, set by you.

  • For instance, you may choose to be alerted when the current average response time exceeds the historic average by 10% or more.
  • Each dynamic performance threshold notification is reported as a percent to easily reflect the difference.

Location Thresholds

In addition to setting performance thresholds, you also set location thresholds.

Setting a trigger for performance threshold notifications, you specify a number of monitoring locations, or a percentage of monitoring locations, from which your Web page's response time must be measured as exceeding your performance threshold.

For example, you might set a location threshold of three monitoring locations. Then, any time three or more locations measure your Web page's response time to be in excess of your designated performance threshold, you'll receive a notification.

Or, as another example, you could set a threshold of 30%. Then, any time 30% or more of your monitoring locations measure your Web page's response time to be in excess of your designated performance threshold, you'll receive a notification.

Be Notified in the Best Way

Receive performance threshold notifications by e-mail or text message, and choose whether to be alerted repeatedly or only once.
